Course objectives The aim of the course is to raise students’ awareness of the fantastic genres and to provide them with basic tools to analyse and interpret literary texts ------------------ Course content 1. Introduction to the course; course requirements 2./3. Differentiating the genres - fantasy vs. science fiction – short history of the genres, major representatives. 4 . Secondary worlds 5. Protagonists 6. Major themes 7. Narration 8.Style 9.Magical realism 10. Dystopias 11. Cyberpunk vs. steam punk 12. New weird 13. Urban fantasy 14. Individual oral presentations in order to get credits 15. credits ---------------- Methods of teaching: multimedia presentation, pair-work, discussion, reading, writing, ICT tools/e-learning, MSTeams platform |

Forms and evaluation of learning outcomes 1. Active participation in classes 10 %of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4) 2. Final discussion of a text chosen by the lecturer 30% (outcome 1, 3,4) 3. Reading and analysing short fragments of fantastic texts 20 % (outcome 1, 3,4) 4. Individual discussion of chosen notions introduced during the term 40% (outcome 1,2,3,4) pass at 60% of the final grade |
