New writing experience

A course dedicated to further writing practice in English with the focus on enhancing student structural and organizational skills. Each student will have a chance to consult their writing samples and draw attention to own strengths and weaknesses.

Course content:

1. writing a poem - paraphrasing a poem

2. writing a narrative - summarising a narrative

3. combining sentences into texts - practicing sophisticated structure and learning coherence

4. decomposing texts into sentences - exercising cohesion and coherence

5. summarising - texts of various genres

6. synthesising information - writing a synthesis; documenting sources

All the reading/writing/exercise materials and tasks provided by the teacher in pdf/ word files/ppts in advance

1. Graduates understand the importance of English as a language tool used for studying philological academic subjects and the rules of contextual communication while/by writing (k_W03; P6S_WG)

2. Graduates can use English at C1 in writing and structure within the context of both creative and structured formal writing (k_U05; P6S_UK)

3. Graduates are ready to cooperate and critically approach and solve problems involved in realization of professional tasks linked to written communication (k-K02; P6S_KK)

Criteria of evaluation:

- group/pair work – 2 points: 3,0; 3-4 points: 3,5; 5-6 points: 4,0; 7-8 points: 4,5; more than 9 points: 5,0

- informed participation in classes – 2 points: 3,0; 3-4 points: 3,5; 5-6 points: 4,0; 7-8 points: 4,5; more than 9 points: 5,0

- project – written report – 60%: 3,0; 61-70%: 3,5; 71-80%: 4,0; 90%: 4,5; 100%: 5,0

All the effects and grades are individually discussed with the students
