  • roczny wymiar godzinowy nakładu pracy studenta konieczny do osiągnięcia zakładanych efektów uczenia się dla danego etapu studiów wynosi 1500-1800 h, co odpowiada 60 ECTS;
  • tygodniowy wymiar godzinowy nakładu pracy studenta wynosi 45 h;
  • 1 punkt ECTS odpowiada 25-30 godzinom pracy studenta potrzebnej do osiągnięcia zakładanych efektów uczenia się;
  • tygodniowy nakład pracy studenta konieczny do osiągnięcia zakładanych efektów uczenia się pozwala uzyskać 1,5 ECTS;
  • nakład pracy potrzebny do zaliczenia przedmiotu, któremu przypisano 3 ECTS, stanowi 10% semestralnego obciążenia studenta.

The course introduces the students to a variety of styles and techniques in presenting and public speaking. It aims at preparing students for successful conferencing tasks through composing speeches and presentations and conducting academic discussions. It also helps students prepare for their C1-Level Practical English Exam.

Course objectives

The task is to raise student`s language fluency to level C1 (according to the criteria suggested by CEFR for languages) in regards to (1) understanding of texts carrying hidden meaning, public and formal speaking including sufficient fluency and precision, correct usage of rules of pronunciation and intonation, appropriate usage of the language in speaking for formal purposes

Course content

• short and long informative speech, structure of a public speech,

• rules of giving a public speech

• rules of the choice of the texts to express specific types of information

• ways to engage the listeners

• ways of giving arguments on a point of view

• rules of finding missing information

• choice of convincing arguments,

• oral analysis of a chosen topic,

• elements of a panel discussion,

• presenting on an academic issue

Knowledge

Student knows:

1. rules of the protection of intellectual and industrial copyright, intellectual property management, and the form of development of individual entrepreneurship (k-W-7)

2. in an advanced degree, principles of the operation of systems and institutions relevant to the scope of the professional activity appropriate for the humanities, arts and related social sciences (inter alia, in the fields of education, culture, media, arts, professional communication, (k-W-8H)

Skills

3. use their knowledge of various domains in the humanities - formulate and solve complex and unusual interdisciplinary problems concerning communication and social life as well as innovatively perform tasks in not fully predictable conditions thanks to: - a proper selection of sources and information drawn from them, evaluation, critical analysis, synthesis, and creative interpretation of that information, - selection and use of appropriate methods and tools, including advanced information and communication techniques (ICT) (k-U-1)

4. communicate on specialist topics with different groups of recipients(k-U-4)

5. conduct a debate (k-U-5)

6. use a foreign language at least at the level of C1 of the Common European Framework for Languages and in the scope of specialist terminology(k-U-6)

7. individually plan and carry out their own learning throughout life and guide others in this respect(k-U-8)

2. giving presentations 30 % - 1, 2, 4, 5, 6,

3. giving speeches 30 %- 2,3,4,5,6

4. self-correction exercises 20% - 2, 4, 7

Methods of instruction/ forms of classroom activity

In class activities, classroom work, workshops: listening and speaking exercises , discussion, group work, multimodal presentations and speeches , vocabulary exercises, grammar exercises, in-class and take-home assignments
