(tylko po angielsku) Course description The course is of an introductory character. It is a practical introduction to the Polish culture with elements of Polish language and most important Polish pieces of art. Course objectives The aim of the course is to present a broad spectrum of issues related to Polish culture (essential information on attitudes, beliefs, everyday life and behavior), as well as to present the basic representatives of various branches of art, in particular painting and music. Moreover, the course will familiarize students with some notions in Polish language, characteristic for the given topics. |

(tylko po angielsku) Course content 1. A definition of culture and everyday culture. 2. Polish values and attitudes. 3. Polish customs and festivals. 4. Painting: Jan Matejko, Tadeusz Makowski, Jacek Malczewski, Stanisław Wyspiański, Zdzisław Beksiński, Stanisław Witkiewicz, Wojciech Kossak. 5. Music: Fryderyk Chopin, Staniszław Moniuszko, Karol Szymanowski, Krzysztof Penderecki, Wojciech Kilar. 6. Popular music festivals (Opole). 7. Popular music: Agnieszka Osiecka, Kabaret Starszych Panów, Wojciech Młynarski, Czesław Niemen, Marek Grechuta (a visit to Artists’ Square and Avenue of Stars). 8. An exhibition in Muzeum Śląska Opolskiego / Muzeum Polskiej Piosenki. |

(tylko po angielsku) Learning outcomes Knowledge Students have: 1. have a basic knowledge of the characteristics of selected individual Polish artists and products of culture, know the most important trends and creators of the Polish cinema and theatre (s-W-4) Skills Students: 2. recognize the most famous masterpieces of literature, cinema and European art, including Polish ones as well as implement rudimentary research skills for competent analysis and interpretation of the phenomena in the field of literature, analyse the works included in the canon of European literature in the context of social, religious, and cultural changes in Europe (s-U-3) 3. know the most important texts of European literature selected from the canon, recognize the basic issues and literary themes in different European literatures, including the Polish literature as well as have a basic knowledge of the links of European literature with history, philosophy, culture (s-U-5) Social competences Students 4. critically assess their philological knowledge and recognize the importance of knowledge of the language in solving cognitive practical problems (k-K-1/P6S_KK) 5. participate in cultural life and use its various forms (k-K-4/P6S_KR) |
