1,5 ECTS – 45 hours: participation in lectures (100% e-learning)

2,5 ECTS – 75 hours: preparation to class with direct participation of the teacher

Course description

The course is dedicated to introducing students to a variety of research methods applied in literary studies, cultural studies and language studies

Course objectives:

- introducing leading methods of research in humanities,

- preparing students for their own research project in their 3rd year of study.

Course content:

Literary component:

1. Author-oriented theories, Psychoanalytic criticism

2. Reader-oriented theories, Text-centred theories: Formalism, Structuralism,

3. Semiotics, Deconstruction, Post-structuralism.

4. Context-oriented theories: Marxist criticism, New historicism, Cultural materialism, Feminist criticism, Gender theory, Men's studies, Queer theory, Post-colonial criticism, Critical Race Theory, Ecocriticism.

Linguistic component:

1. The main research orientations within the subject field

2. Theoretical models and research paradigms: quantitative, qualitative, normative and critical

3. Methodologies and analytic categories: from hypothesis to design of the study

4. Research procedures: data sampling, analytical tools, methods of presentation and discussion.

5. The scope and results of research: conclusions.

6. The issues to be explored, limitations, criticism.

Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes :

1. Exam in the form of a written test in a stationary form (in a classroom)-- 100% of the final grade (Outcomes: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7)

EACH COMPONENT IS EQUALLY REPRESENTED IN THE WRITTEN EXAM

Grading criteria:

60 -67% 3.0

68 - 75% 3.5

76 - 83% 4.0

84 - 91% 4.5

92 - 100% 5.0
