ECTS points in relation to student’s duties

1ECTS = 30hrs in class (50% online; 50% in classroom)

4ECTS = 100 hrs preparation with direct participation of the teacher

Course description

Graduate seminar 2 is a continuation of the Graduate seminar 1 and involves further work between the student and the supervisor of MA thesis on the development of the students' own academic research and writing of MA thesis on a selected topic SLA in English philology.

Course objectives

- continuation of the student's work on own research for the purpose of MA thesis

- further development of interpretative strategies and critical skills

- further practice in academic writing when working with the research background relevant to the student''s research topic

Methods of instructions: mentoring, supervising, tutoring, discussion, extensive reading and writing, ICT tools/e-learning MSTeams

Reading list

Reading list includes the texts connected with the topics of the students' MA theses and it may vary.

The student knows and understands

1. the place and significance of the philological science among humanities and its analytical and methodological tools (k_W01/P7S_WG)

2. the role of English as a cognitive means and a tool used for studying (k_W03/P7S_WG)

3. a selected range of methods of analysis and interpretation of culture products analysed in the studied discipline, including research

schools within English philology (k_W04/P7S_WG)

4. principles of copyright and its protection in relation to various cultural products, in particular in the field of English philology (k_W08/P7S_WK)

The student can

5. apply critical interpretation of gained knowledge in their writing of the research review of their MA thesis (k_U02/P7S_UW)

6. refer to arguments and draw logical conclusions using appropriate methods and expended tools (k_U03/P7S_UW)

7. use appropriate tools and methods to analyse and discuss own research problem with MA supervisor (k_U06/P7S_UK)

Social competence

The student is ready to

8. participate in various forms of cultural life for the research purposes (k_K04/P7S_KO)

9. take the ethical responsibilities of the critical research work (the question of plagiarism) (k_K05/P7S_KR)

Forms of evalutions of learning outcomes

1. Active participation during classes - 45% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,8)

2. Research review chapter of own MA thesis - 55% of the final grade (outcome 3,4,5,6,7,9)
