Course description:

The lecture on General teacher training introduces the main assumptions of the selected, influential methods and approaches to teaching English as a foreign language, draws attention to the role a teacher and the place of didactics in pedagogy.

Course objectives:

to familiarise the students with leading methods of teaching EFL

to discuss the principles and assumptions of the selected methods and approaches

to bring to the students' attention and awareness the role of a teacher and a learner and their relationship within leading methods of teaching

to discuss methods of communication for teaching purposes considering learner needs

to present lesson structure within particular methods of teaching

4. contemporary teaching concepts and educational goals - sources, ways of formulating them and their types; principles of didactics, teaching methods, teaching content and organization of the education process and students' work (M_N_C.W03)

5. issues of the lesson as a teaching unit and its structure, lesson models and the art of conducting lessons, as well as styles and techniques of working with students; classroom interactions; teaching resources (M_N_C.W04)

6. the need to design educational activities tailored to the diverse needs and capabilities of students, in particular psychophysical capabilities and learning pace, as well as the need and methods of equalizing educational opportunities, the importance of discovering and developing predispositions and talents, and issues related to preparing students to participate in competitions and subject competitions; teacher's teaching autonomy (M_N_C.W05)

7. methods and importance of assessing students' school achievements: formative assessment in the context of teaching effectiveness, internal school assessment system, types and methods of conducting tests and external examinations; the subject of assessing the teacher's teaching effectiveness and the quality of school activities as well as the educational added value (M_N_C.W06)

8. the importance of language as a teacher's tool: methods of communication for teaching purposes - the art of lecturing and asking questions, ways of increasing students' communicative activity (M_N_C.W07)
