Course description The course supports the students in reaching their C1-level competence In writing in English. It provides students with an opportunity to develop and practise their (academic) written skills in terms of different (academic) text types as well as various grammatical and stylistic phenomena. During the course students will learn how to take stance and how to reasonably argue a point by providing sound evidence to the point's advantage and refute any counterarguments that could undermine the point. Additionally, a number of useful syntactic constructions in stance taking, such as relative clauses, emphatic construction etc., will be introduced and practised. |

Course objectives - to improve students' proficiency in writing at C1 level. - to prepare students for C1-Level Practical English Exam with respect to writing --------------------- Course content: - essay organization (Introduction (Thesis Statement) , Main Body (Topic Sentences), Conclusions) - persuasive/argumentative essay - punctuation - elements of academic style - sentence building with relative clauses - persuasive stylistic devices: emphasis - stylistic/syntactic variation: left and right handed sentences --------------------- Methods of instruction/ forms of classroom activity extensive reading, writing tasks, feedback, individual work, discussion, ICT tools/MSTeams |
