1 ECTS – 30 hours: class participation,

1 ECTS – 30 hours: preparation to classes (extensive vocabulary and grammar exercises) with direct participation of the teacher

Course description:

The course is a continuation of Language skills: vocabulary and structures 1; it includes further advanced grammar and academic vocabulary. Through practical analysis of exam-oriented tasks with reference to the structures and vocabulary of English, the course guides students towards their Practical English Exam at C1-Level

Course objectives:

- developing students' command of vocabulary with special reference to the academic discourse,

- strengthening students' understanding of authentic texts while reading and paraphrasing,

- improving students' knowledge of English grammar and structures used on the C1 level,

- developing exam task-solving techniques.

• Tenses

• Modals (past/present)

• Passives and causatives

Topics – vocabulary:

• Prepositional phrases

• Thinking and learning

• Change and technology

• Movement and transport

• Communication and the media

Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes:

1. Active participation - 20% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,5,6)

2. Tests in advanced grammar and vocabulary of English - 80% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4)

To get a credit students need to pass all tests.

Marks are granted according to the following framework:

60 -67% 3.0

68 - 75% 3.5

76 - 83% 4.0

84 - 91% 4.5

92 - 100% 5.0
