Course description:

During the lecture students will learn basic concepts associated with the study and analysis of literary works in English. The lecture demonstrates that various notions fundamental to the study of literature have developed historically. It also offers understanding of the main concepts and distinctions underpinning literary genres of fiction, poetry, and drama.

Course objectives:

The lecture aims at familiarizing students with the basic concepts and terms related to literary studies. The lecture gives students knowledge of history of the development of European reflection on a literary work and basic problems of literary theory. The lecture frames literature as a product of culture and focuses on providing students with the knowledge of terminology and concepts important in analyzing literary works.
