0,5 ECTS - 15 hrs of consultations with a BA supervisor

0,5 ECTS - 15 hrs of preparation

Course description

The course is to acquaint students with specialist theoretical and methodological knowledge within the scope of the diploma seminar in order to prepare them for writing a BA thesis. Students learn the style, formal requirements and theoretical concepts connected with writing BA diploma paper, as well as broaden their knowledge in the field of English Philology.

Course objectives

- introducing main research methods within the chosen seminar

- introducting theoretical models and research paradigms

- introducing the stylistic and formal guidelines for BA project writing

- preparing for own research project

2. Theoretical models and research paradigms

3. Dominant methodologies and research procedures

4. The scope of research of the discipline

5. The issues to be explored and implications for scholarship

6. The main guidelines for framing diploma research projects

Students know and understand

1. position and importance of the English language and philological studies in various fields (business, culture, economy, information technology, law, media, politics, science and sociology) (k_W01/P6S_WG)

2. specific terminology and techniques used in reading, critical analysis, and writing in English in order to work towards preparing own research project (k_W04/P6S_WG)

3. principles of copyright and its protection in relation to various cultural products, in particular in the field of English philology (k_W06/P6S_WK)

Skills

Students can

4. be innovative in preparing own research project through proper selection, evaluation and analysis of the obtained information (k_U02/P6S_UW)

5. conduct basic research, search, and analysis, select and use information using different sources, methods and computer literacy (k_U04/P6S_UW)

6. formulate research problems and use appropriate tools and methods to analyse and discuss them with other specialists in the field of English philology (k_U07/P6S_UK)

Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes:

1. Active participation in classes and consultations - 45% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11)

2. Evaluation of the style, form and content of BA theses - 55% of the final grade (outcome 2,34,5,6,7,8,9,10)
