1 ECTS – 15 hours of self-study for reading transcription and transcribing, 10 hours of consultation

Course description

The course gives the students practice in English phonetics. It is compatible with practical classes rasing students' proficiency level to C1.

Course objectives:

improving pronunciation of vowels, diphthongs and consonants

Course content:

Practicing sound pronunciation, vowel length differentiation, production exercises and minimal pair differentiation, reading a phonetic transcription, word transcribing, short vowels, long vowels, diphthongs, tripthongs, plosive consonants, nasal consonants, other consonants.

Methods of instruction/forms of classroom activity:

Lessons in a didactic room: individual and group work, practical exercises, repeating recorded sounds, reading transcribed sounds, transcribing, working with computer programme „Say it right”

Form of evaluation of learning outcomes:

1. Active participation in classes - 20% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4)

2. Oral tests - pronuncing sounds in isolation and in a text, reading sounds from transcription - 40% of the final grade (outcome 2,4)

3. Transcription tests - transcribing individual sounds and words - 40% of the final grade (outcome 1,3)
