Aspects of communication in Polish as a foreign language

ECTS points in relation to student’s duties:

total ECTS: 8

2 ECTS – 60 hours: participation in classes

5,5 ECTS – 165 hours: preparation to classes, preparation to the end of semester test and doing homework

0,5 - 15 hours: consultations

Course description

The course is designated to English and Polish as a Foreign Language elective module. It offers non-Polish students intensive practice in communication in Polish as a foreign language. Students also learn further aspects of the Polish language (vocabulary and grammar) at A2/B1 level.

Course objectives

• listening to short utterances (dialogues, short monologues), simple questions, hints and instructions,

• understanding the general content of short written texts,

• participating in simple communication situations, expressing basic intentions, brief information about oneself, the environment, other people, etc.,

• pronunciation of Polish sounds,

• writing learned words and sentences and short texts about everyday life.

Methods of teaching/forms of instruction:

communicative approach = work with authentic materials, practical exercises, dialogues, discussions in pairs and groups, simulations, role-plays, communication games and activities, pre-communication exercises, the use of various media, training in the development of individual skills, exercises with the information gap.

Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes

1. Active participation in classes (performing class assignments) - 45% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,5,6)

2. End of semester test and oral utterances - 55% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4)
