Course description: The course focuses on developing the skills of summarising, paraphrasing and synthesizing in writing. Among these essential academic skills, synthesizing is the most advanced one and shall be given particular consideration. Course objectives: - students develop writing skills on academic level - students master their critical thinking skills - students develop academic skills of material selection for synthesising with reference to topics given Course content: -combining sentences into texts - practicing sophisticated structure and learning coherence -decomposing texts into sentences - exercising cohesion and coherence -summarising - texts of various genres -synthesising information - writing a synthesis; documenting sources Methods of teaching: -pair/group work/cooperation/critical analysis -teacher-group meetings - discussion/exercises -individual tasks (structure/summaries) -individual projects (synthesising/literature review) |

Learning outcomes acc to PRK 2019 1. Graduates understand the importance of English as a language tool used for studying philological academic subjects and the rules of contextual communication while/by writing (k_W03; P6S_WG) 2. Graduates can use English at C1 in writing and structure within the context of both creative and structured formal writing (k_U05; P6S_UK) 3.
