This is a Mandarin Chinese course for beginners, including introduction of phonetics and daily expressions. After taking this class, learners can have a basic understanding of Mandarin Chinese and make basic conversations of daily living. selected topics and situations come from real life scenarios and can be used for everyday communications. In addition to the dialogues, the selection of reading materials and practice activities will make the content as rich and varied as possible, in order to stimulate the learners’ interests. The new words, grammar and functions are all encompassed in the second part of Practical Audio-Visual Chinese 1. |

Course objectives The main aim of the course is to develop non-heritage students’ basic listening, speaking, reading and writing skills of the Chinese language. ----------------- Course content In-class activities are designed to increase students' learning motivation based on the topics below: Book 1 Lesson 8: This is our newly-purchased television 1. Nouns Modified by Clauses with 的 2. Specified Nouns Modified by Clauses with 的 3. Clausal Expressions which Have Become Independent Nouns 4. Adverbs 因為....所以 Used as Correlative Conjunctions Book 1 Lesson 9: Where is your school? 1. Place Words 2. 在 as Main Verb (with place word as complement), is used to indicate "Y is located X". 3. Existence in a Place 4. 在 as a Coverb of Location 5. Nouns Modified by Place Expressions 6. Distance with Coverb 離 Book 1 Lesson 10: I went to Japan 1. Coming and Going 2.
