Course description This is a course designated to Translation Studies Module. The course is a continuation of General translation 1 and focuses on further analysis of basic problems found in selected translation theories as well as on the development of general translation skills. |

Course objectives: - enriching the students' vocabulary (in terms of general vocabulary), - equipping students with knowledge in the area of the so-called translator's workshop and translation process, - developing the skills of efficient use of source materials, including those available online (dictionaries, forums for translators), - developing the ability to translate various types of non- specialized texts. -------------- Course content: Activities developing language skills in the area of written translation of non-specialized texts from English into Polish and Polish into English. --------------- Methods of teaching/forms of classroom activitiy: presentation, text analysis, text translation, discussion, individual work, pair work, ICT tools/e-learning |

Learning outcomes acc to PRK 2019 Knowledge: Student 1. is familiar with the basic terminology and conceptual framework of translation studies (m-W-1/ P6S_WG) 2. has a working knowledge of the theoretical approaches to translation and the main research paradigms (m-W-2/P6S_WK) Skills: Student 3. has the ability to search for, analyze, select, and use information related to translation by consulting academic and popular sources and tools, including electronic ones, apply techniques for collecting data, and produce good-quality translations (m-U-1/P6S_UW) 4. is able to analyze target language (TL) translations in relation to their source language (SL) texts and evaluate the former objectively and constructively - with the focus on non-specialist texts (m-U-2/P6S_UW) Social competences: Student 5. is ready to make responsible and ethical use of translation products and practices in and out of the classroom - regarding non-specialist texts (m-K-1/P6S_KR) 6. shapes their own views regarding the significance of reliable translation for the development of the society and its general and specialized information needs (m-K-2/P6S_KK) |
