This course encourages critical thinking and analysis, providing students with the tools to understand the complex relationship between cinema, multiculturalism, and European societies. Through a combination of lectures, screenings, and discussions, students will gain a nuanced perspective on the diverse narratives and voices present in European cinema. The course aims to foster an appreciation for the role of film as a mirror reflecting societal complexities and as a catalyst for cultural exchange and understanding.
Pełny opis:	This course will cover the following topics: 1: Introduction to Multiculturalism in European Cinema Overview of multicultural themes in European cinema Historical context and evolution of multiculturalism in film 2: Exploring Identity through Cinematic Narratives Analysis of how European films depict diverse identities Discussion on the role of ethnicity, nationality, and culture in storytelling 3: Immigration and Diaspora in European Cinema Examination of films portraying immigration experiences Understanding the impact of diaspora on European societies 4: European Film Festivals and Cultural Exchange Overview of prominent European film festivals promoting multicultural cinema Discussion on the role of film festivals in cultural exchange 5: Contemporary Issues in Multicultural Europe Analysis of films addressing current social and political issues 6: Cinematic Representations of Ethnic Conflict Examination of films depicting ethnic conflicts in Europe Understanding the role of cinema in reflecting and addressing societal tension
Efekty uczenia się:	Course Objectives: By the end of the course, students will have acquired a comprehensive understanding of multiculturalism in European cinema and the ability to critically analyze and appreciate the complexities of cinematic representations of identity, immigration, diaspora, and societal issues.
Metody i kryteria oceniania:	Course Methodology: Classes will typically consist of a lecture/discussion and class exercises. There will also be screenings of films and extracts from films. Assignments: In Class Presentations.
