Course description The course is a continuation of the development of advanced and proficiency grammar, use of English, and academic vocabulary and listening-oriented activities. It aims at preparing students for their C2-Level Practical English Exam. |

Course objectives development of students knowledge of advanced and proficiency grammar development of use of English skills, development of academic vocabulary development of listening-oriented skills preparation for C2-Level Practical English Exampreparation for C2-Level Practical English Exam with respect to listening and the use of English, with special attention to academic style. ----------------- Course content - developing students' command of vocabulary with special reference to the academic discourse - recognising and using phrases and idioms, recognising and using phrasal verbs, understanding parts of speech, rephrasing and transforming, understanding confusable words, understanding grammatical structure; - listening: general gist, details, specific information, - interpreting context; listening to understand the meaning of a range of spoken material, including lectures, radio broadcasts, speeches and talks. - improving students' knowledge of English grammar and structures used on the C2 level, - developing exam task-solving techniques. ----------- Methods of instruction/ forms of classroom activity listening tasks, language tasks, ICT tools/MSTeams, discussion |

Learning outcomes acc to PRK 2019 Knowledge Student knows and understands: 1. grammatical and lexical rules of C2-Level academic English, in particular, word formation, reported speech, conditional sentences, rephrasing and transforming, confusable words (k_W02/P7S_WG) 2. rare expressions and idioms, phrasal verbs and confusable words (k_W06/P7S_WG) Skills Student can: 3. apply grammatical, lexical and stylistic rules of C2-Level academic English, in particular students can identify and use parts of speech in a sentence (k_U05/P7S_UK) 4. use conditional sentences, reported speech, apply reporting verb patterns, rephrase and transform sentences (k_U05/P7S_UK) 5. understand, use and match rare expressions, idioms, and phrasal verbs to a given context (k_U05/P7S_UK) 6.understand a range of spoken material and use English as a foreign language at the level of C2 (k_U05/P7S_UK) |
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes: 1. Active participation in classes - 45% of the final grade (outcomes: 1,2,3,4,5,6) 2. Final test - 55% of the final grade (outcomes: 1,2,3,4,5,6) C2 level reaching 55% of accuracy in written tests Test marks are granted according to the following framework: grade 2,0 (fail): 0–54% grade 3,0 (average): 55–64% grade 3,5 (plus average): 65–73% grade 4,0 (good): 74–82% grade 4,5 (plus good): 83–91% grade 5,0 (very good): 92–100% |
