Skrócony opis:

Course description

This is a course designated to English and Culture Studies Module. It introduces the students to the concepts of culture in a digitalised world. It provides them with a broad and systematic knowledge of major phenomena and new forms of participation characteristic of digital cultures. It introduces terminology and methodology of the new media and cyberculture, and major issues related to intellectual property and copyrights in the age of the Internet.

Course objectives

The aim of the course is to make students familiar with various aspects of digital culture and new forms of expression accompanying the process of the transformation of traditional culture under the influence of technological revolution.

1. A history of the new media and digital culture.

2. Major theorists and methodologies applied in the study of the new media and digital culture.

3. The concept of cyberculture and Web 2.0.

4. The new media and digital culture and copyrights.

5. Digital culture and politics.

6. Traditional culture and the challenge of digitalization and globalization.

7. Posthumanism – challenges and hopes.

Metody i kryteria oceniania:

Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes

1. Active participation in classes, an analysis and interpretation of texts, films, information and multimedia materials - 30% of the final grade (outcome 3,4,5)

2. Reading assignments 30% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4)

3. A written test - 40% of the final grade (outcome 1,2)

Pass at 60% of the final grade
