Short description: |
The course in a modern language "Lexis - Meaning - World" as taught during the MA studies is a practical one-semester course, whose main aim is the maximum extension of a student's linguistic competence (in particular lexical one) and communicative competence, especially within the following thematic frameworks: travel & holidays, work & employment, money and the ways of referring to it, problems and the ways of describing them in English. In principle, the work on the above-mentioned vocabulary ranges is performed at B2+ level (at least upper intermediate) on the basis of a world-renowned lexical-grammatical reference book. The aim of the course is the practical extension of a student's lexical competence (especially lexical one) and communicative competence, especially within a few thematic frameworks with which the student may be dealing with in his or her academic life (e.g. during trips abroad) or professional setting (having found a job) - see the detailed contents below. Methods of instruction/ forms of classroom activity: --------------------------------------------------------------- - problem-solving: situational, brainstorms; - practical exercises: a range of exercises performed individually, in pairs, or in a group. - distant-mode learning (via the platforms WhatsApp and/or Microsoft Teams). THE EFFECTS OF LEARNING ACCORDING TO PRK 2017 (codes for EP): KNOWLEDGE: following the course the student knows and understands: 1. the English language (adequate lexis & stylistics) within the frameworks of the topics enumerated in the detailed contents of the course - up to B2+ level (k-W-3); SKILLS: following the course the student can: 2. use the English language up to B2+ level within the frameworks of the specialised lexis characteristic for the topics enumerated in the detailed contents of the course (k-U-4); SOCIAL COMPETENCES: following the course the student is ready to: 3. critically assess his or her own linguistic competences and specialised knowledge, and constantly improve their skills, including language skills, while performing academic and professional activities (k-K-1). |
