  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

The course concentrates on supporting students with producing a research paper in academic style as a partial requirement for their BA defence examination. The emphasis is placed at critical reading prior to argumantative narrative production.

Full description:

Students cover the theoretical and practical topics as follows:

1. revision of the stance of the academic writer - the rhetorics and language mechanics - levels of formality, impersonal narration, complex sentence structures

2. BA text organization - working within the template BA/MA required in this Institute, students prepare outlays of the final draft which are systematically revised in class

3. APA style - discussion of problematic instances

4. synthesising - based on the material prepared by the teacher students exercise writing a synthesis; furhter, they prepare their own syntheses based on reference sources they have been collecting throughout the course

Learning outcomes:

1. Graduates know and understand the place of philological study among humanities as well as its methodologies (k_W01; P6S_WG)

- analytical and interpretative methods in the disciplines discussed during seminar class (k_W04; P6S_WG)

- the rules of copywright and its protection (k_W10; P6S_WK)

2. Graduates can use the terminology and take position related to philological studies (k_U01; P6S_UW)

- recognize different types of texts and analyse them critically (k_U02; P6S_UW)

- seek and critically analyse information from different philological sources-synthesis (k_U07; P6S_UO)

3. Graduates are ready to set priorities in realising various task connected to studying (k_K01; P6S_KK)

- critical assessment and solving problems related to professional carreer where creating texts is involved (k_K02; P6S_KK)

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

1. 20% - attendance and participation

2. 40 % - research paper: layout, contens; introduction and one chapter

3. 40 % - synthesis in the written/ printed version
