Course descriptions

“ALS: Reading, writing and speaking 3” is a continuation of “ALS: Reading, writing and speaking 2.” The course aims at further continuation of developing the participants' knowledge, skills and social competences within the area of academic discourse, with emphasis given to reading of specialist academic texts, speaking at academic level and writing

Full description:

Course content

• Reading, analysing and discussing academic texts pertaining to the chosen specialty

• Using the Internet and traditional data-base queries in order to select, analyse and synthesize various ideas and viewpointsincluded in academic textspertaining to the chosen specialty

• Writing formal academic summaries and/oracademic paper abstracts (applying academic writing guidelinesand terminology as required

by the chosen specialty)

• Giving academic presentations and providing a constructive feedback (focus on the content, delivery and academic discourse features

characteristic for the chosen specialty)

• Conducting academic discussions coordinated by appointed students (formulating questions, critical opinions and supportive arguments)

4. use English at C2 level, with particular emphasis on academic discourse, taking part in specialist communication and conducting a formalized debate (k_U05/P7S_UK)

5. manage the work of the group to develop language skills (k_U07/P7S_UO)
