Richard Westra

My current research interests include include epistemology, ontology and science in the study of economics, critical analysis of globalization, financialization and neoliberalism, the political economy of environmentally sustainable social change and new historical societies, East Asian political economy, ideology in social science and analysis of global apartheid. Three book projects in progress focus upon unfree labor in the global economy, the political economy of postcapitalism that explores the world-historic shift away from capitalism toward a more predatory and authoritarian form of society over the past several decades and the political economy of new historical societies that critically examines the array of potential new ways of organizing economic life of society such as "green new deals", solidarity economies, degrowth economies, ecosocialism and so forth.
