The course aims to catalyze the critical reflexivity of the students regarding the academic resources their accumulated over the course of the studies. The in class discussions and assignments are designed to stimulate the thinking about the student as an academic and graduate in modern society. |

1. Identifying your knowledge, skills and interests Discussion: How the connection of your previous education and the liberal arts degree? What are the prospects of your career? What do you want to do and where? Are there any positions or actual personas, who you would like to ‘become’? What are you still missing? What are the potential gaps in your development? 2. Interdisciplinarity Discussion: What are disciplines? Why one might want to trespass them? What is the notion of methodology? What is the field expertise? What is the trajectory of an academic career? What are the niches you might personally fill? 3. Mapping your field Discussion: What is your field of expertise? How it is connected to your MA project? What you still do not know? Who is important in your field? What are the central discussions? 4. Grant writing Discussion: Grants as a basic mode of financial resources in the culture industries. Logic of proposal as a basic academic theme. Critical discussion of the gig economy in the third sector. Assignment: Re-writing your MA project as a grant proposal. 5. Further academic career? Discussion: Publications and reviews as the currency of academia. Assignment: reviewing your colleague’s MA proposal. 6. Communicating research, trespassing academia Discussion: How to communicate science to general public. How to persuade both, academic and non-academic audience at once. Using art to engage with the public. Why outreach is so important? 7. Sustainable personal branding Discussion: Responsible marketing of oneself. |

The student is able to plan reflexively her career in the institutional and cultural contexts of academia. She understands the logic of project and the genre of application writing. She is able to imagine professional roles to take in modern societies and can critically engage in discussion about it. |
