The aim of the course is to help students in continuous achievement of fluency in discussing various topics in the aca-demic context; to familiarize students with the characteristics of writing texts in an academic environment (argumentation and comparative essay). The task of the course is to raise students' language fluency to the C1 level (according to the criteria suggested by CEFR for languages) in regards to: - spontaneous speaking including sufficient fluency and precision, - correct usage of rules of pronunciation and intonation, - elastic usage of the language in speaking and writing for general purposes, - correct creation of detailed and relatively complex texts in the form suitable with the content, - controlled usage of mechanisms of text organization. The speaking component concentrates on: giving information, expressing opinions, giving proofs and arguments, inform-ing the speaker about personal feelings and experience, expressing assumptions, encouraging the speaker to exchange the views, expressing acceptance or lack of it in the context of the speaker; The writing component concentrates on: a comparative essay, an argumentative essay. |

Knowledge Graduate knows: 1. how to carry on a comparative and an argumentative conversation on various topics (k-W-1, k-W-4, k-W-5); 2. how to write a comparative and argumentative essays (k-W-1, k-W-4, k-W-5). Skills Graduate can: 3. select proper arguments and accurate comparisons in conversation and essay (k-U-1, k-U-2); 4. collaborate with other students in discussions (k-U-4). Social competences Graduate: 5. is able to choose appropriate arguments to compare and argument two sides of one phenomenon (k-K-1); 6. cooperates with others in pairs, teams (k-K-2); 7. is well-organized and reliable as regards assignments (k-K-5). |
