Course description: The course, along with the preceding course Language skills: writing with elements of grammar 1, is an introduction to all types of composition writing required at C1 level: description, narrative, transactional letter, argumentation, article and review. Each class introduces the basic plan for a type of writing. Exercises improve students' writing skills focusing on register, style and grammar. The course is linked with self-study 1 exam and is meant to support students in preparation for the writing part. |

Course objectives: The aim of the course is to improve students’ writing skills and the aspects of grammar which influence the skill of written composition at C1 level. One of the aims is preparing students to pass C1 self-study - writing part. --------------- Course content: - structure of closing paragraphs, - descriptive essays, - opinion essays, - articles of English - formal vs informal styles of writing - creative writing activities in groups - use of formal vs. informal style in writing, - word formation: nouns and adjectives, - word order: multiple adjectives, - use of synonyms: nouns, adjectives, verbs, - linking words, ------------------ Methods of instruction/ forms of classroom activity: writing tasks, grammar excercises, text analysis, individual work, pair work, class discussion, ICT tools/e-learning option if needed/MSTeams |

Metody i kryteria oceniania: |
Form of evaluation of learning outcomes: 1. Active participation during classes - 20% of the final grade (outcome 2,3,5) (maximum score: 3 pluses) 2. Writing assignments - 80% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,5,6) One in class essay - 40% Two take-home assignments - 40% To get a credit students need to pass all writing assignments. Marks are granted according to the following framework: grade 2,0 (fail): 0–49% grade 3,0 (average): 50–59% grade 3,5 (plus average): 60–69% grade 4,0 (good): 70–79% grade 4,5 (plus good): 80–89% grade 5,0 (very good): 90–100% pass at 60% of the final grade |
