Course description

The course introduces the students to a variety of styles and techniques in presenting and public speaking. It aims at preparing students for successful conferencing tasks through composing speeches and presentations and conducting academic discussions. The students develop their speaking skills at B2+/C1 level. The course is a continuation of the oral communication skills course in the previous semester.

Course objectives:

The aim of the course is to help students achieve fluency in giving oral presentations in English reaching B2+/C1 level of proficiency.

• rules of giving a public speech

• visual design in public speaking

• rules of the choice of the texts to express specific types of information

• rules of self-presentation

• textual and visual material preparation

• ways of giving arguments on a point of view

• oral analysis of a chosen topic,

• elements of a panel discussion,

• presenting on an academic issue

• training fluency in communication by doing different games and activities in pairs and groups, whole-group activities.

Metody i kryteria oceniania:

Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes

1. Active participation during classes (continuous assessment) - 20% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4).

2. Presentations (mid and end of semester) - each 40% of the final grade (outcome 2,3,4,5,6).

To get a credit students need to pass all presentations.

the criteria of assessment of the presentations:

grade 2,0 (fail): 0–49%

grade 3,0 (average): 50–59%

grade 3,5 (plus average): 60–69%

grade 4,0 (good): 70–79%

grade 4,5 (plus good): 80–89%

grade 5,0 (very good): 90–100%
