Specialist lecture series 2

Specialized lecture series reflects the variety of specializations in the Institute of English Studies and offers an overview of selected issues pertaining to Literary Studies, Cultural Studies, Linguistics and Applied Linguistics (Teaching). Themes vary in each semester.

The aim of the lectures is to familiarize students with selected concepts related to linguistics, and recent psychological, anthropological and linguistic research that have led to the development of theory and methodology of linguistic research.

Reading list is provided by the instructor at the beginning of the lectures.

Knowledge

After the course, students:

1) have advanced knowledge of specialized terminology of Literary Studies, Cultural Studies, Linguistics and Applied Linguistics (P7S_WG)

2) have a critical understanding of sources and bases of knowledge and be familiar with the fundamental epistemological tenets of academic research in the humanities (P7S_WK)

3) understand the genealogy and development of specialist categories and procedures in Literary Studies, Cultural Studies, Linguistics and Applied Linguistics (P7S_WG/K)

Skills

After the course, students:

4) can apply the main theoretical frameworks, methodological paradigms and conceptions typical of Literary Studies, Cultural Studies, Linguistics and Applied Linguistics (P7S_UK)

5) can integrate knowledge from various disciplines within the humanities (P7S_UW)

Social competences

After the course, students:

6) critically assess the applicability of various notions and conceptions in the humanities (P7S_KK)

7) develop their own worldviews and tastes with regard to the knowledge gained in class (P7S_KR)
