Course description: The course is a continuation of Academic writing 1 and focuses on deepening the students’ knowledge and academic writing skills including quoting and reference-making (according to MLA/APA guidelines), summarizing, paraphrasing and synthesizing academic texts in accordance with worldwide standards for published research. |

Course objectives: - developing advanced academic writing skills - practicing academic referencing skills (MLA/APA) - practicing academic discourse ------------------ Course content: 1. The formal properties and conventions of academic writing 2. Selected stylesheet guidelines (APA, MLA) 3. In-text citations and quotations 4. Compiling a bibliography 5. Paraphrase 6. Summary ----------------- Methods of instruction/ forms of classroom activity: short writing practice tasks, discussion, feedback, group tasks, ICT tool/MSTeams platform |

Learning outcomes acc to PQR 2019 Knowledge: Student knows and understands: 1. theories, methodology and general and detailed terminology of linguistics, literature and culture studies (k_W02/P6S_WG) 2. methods of analysis and interpretation of texts and culture products, within selected traditions, theories and research schools in linguistics, literature and culture studies (k_W04/P6S_WG) 3. rules of the protection of intellectual and industrial copyright and the form of development of individual entrepreneurship (k_W10/P6S_WK) Skills Student can: 4. use their philological knowledge in proper selection of sources and information drawn from them in the processes of evaluation, critical analysis and synthesising of that information in English in their academic text (k_U02/P6S_UW) 5. use arguments and formulate logical conclusions in their own academic text based on studies of other authors (k_U03/P6S-UW) 6. can write in English at C1 level of proficiency (k_U05/P6S_UK) Social competences Student is ready to: 7. critically evaluate and solve problems arising from the implementation of professional tasks such as text creation (k_K02/P6S_KK) 8. in a responsible way, exercise professional roles, including: complying with the rules of professional ethics when using academic sources for own writing (k_K05/P6S_KR) |

Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes: 1. Active participation in classes - 20% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,7,8) 2. Evaluation of the style, form and content of BA theses - 80% of the final grade (outcomes 1,2,3,4,5,6) pass at 60% of the final grade |
