Brief description

(in Polish) Photography is capturing light. In physics, it's a phenomenon that has a special duality, because it's both a wave and a particle. In these lectures I am going to speak about the intimate relations between physical aspects of photography and its artistic values. Also, important feature of modern digital photography is its ubiquity (everyone now has a smartphone with almost unlimited possibilities to take pictures) and ease of retouching of different kinds using dedicated software packages like Adobe Photoshop and/or GIMP. All this makes the modern photography a striking blend of exact sciences (like physics and computer science) and contemporary art.

Course description

The course is designated to English in Media Module. The course focuses on the topic of ‘The Other’. The term emerges from philosophy and functions also in psychology, social theories and culture. In the philosophical perspective this concept helps to identify the "other" human being, in his and her differences from the Self. The act of distinguishing oneself from the other is recognised as a constituting factor in the establishing of self-image of a person; as acknowledgement of being real.

Brief description

Course description:

The course is to familiarize students with fundamental notions regarding sociolinguistics. The term 'sociolinguistics' was coined in the 1950s to try to bring together the perspectives of linguists and sociologists to bear on issues concerning the place of language in society, and to address, in particular, the social context of linguistic diversity. The course follows a discussion format intertwined with practical exercises on the basis of reading assignments. Students are assigned readings beforehand and are expected to participate regularly in classroom discussions and classroom tasks.
